"Crowley aides said they had told the newspaper weeks ago that there was a scheduling conflict and had asked to change the event."

That's the sentence that nobody's talking about.  

The New York Times manipulated this vote, and is internationally damaging Mr. Crowley's reputation and career for no reason.  

The New York Times is such a respected newspaper that he probably thinks that he can't offer a defense, no matter how much he is defamed, and the rest of the Democratic establishment probably also feels the same way.  This wasn't a MeToo situation, nor was it a vote between a chauvinist and a feminist.  He really doesn't seem as if he's a bad guy.
